In 2019, with a desire to take Urban+ to the next level, Claire & Gary brought on a new business partner, Simon Higgins, to help pave the way. A connection with the award-winning team at COREO provided a pivotal turning point.
Urban+ gained a new understanding of the principles around the Circular Economy which provided clarity, not least in the language they could use to articulate the Urban+ purpose. In many ways Urban+ was already living and breathing principles of a circular economy, but there was more that could be done.
Fast forward to today and Urban+ has completely shifted its focus to a purpose-led business with a circular business model, the perfect way to do good for our customers, our planet, and our future generations.
Urban+ was founded by Gary and Claire Allan in 2001. Gary, a qualified fitter and turner became frustrated with business practices that created products with built in obsolescence and was driven by the personal value that he could create products that last. Claire, a nurse by trade was devoted to going above and beyond for customers to make life easier. Gary’s vision to craft (not just manufacture) products that would last, matched with Claire’s desire to run a business that was meaningful beyond the products sold, created the Urban+ DNA – ‘to make life better’. For the 18 years following, the business operated on the respect the duo earned in the industry.
