URBAN+ FUN FACT (UFF)
In 1881, Hyde Park in Sydney received the ornate Frazer Fountain — a gothic-style sandstone drinking fountain gifted by philanthropist John Frazer. Featuring bronze dolphin-shaped taps and intricate carvings, the fountain was both a functional water source and a statement of civic pride. It became one of Sydney’s first dedicated public drinking fountains, symbolising the growing importance of accessible, clean water in the city’s urban landscape and setting a precedent for decorative yet practical public infrastructure across Australia .
