10 Key Considerations When Specifying a Drinking Fountain
Specifying a drinking fountain is a decision that shapes how people experience a space from usability and accessibility to long-term performance and visual cohesion. The right choice can transform a public area, school, or park into a place that supports wellness, sustainability, and community connection. Getting it right means balancing practicality with design intent.

URBAN+ FUN FACT (UFF)

In 1896, the Hordern Fountain was installed in Sydney at the corner of Pyrmont Street, Edward Street and Pyrmont Bridge Road as a gift from prominent businessman Samuel Hordern. This ornate sandstone fountain once provided public drinking water at a time when access to clean water was limited and water infrastructure was still developing in the colony. Today, although no longer operational, it remains as a heritage landmark of Sydney’s early public amenity efforts.
