URBAN+ FUN FACT (UFF)
TIn 1870, Sydney’s Mayor, Walter Renny, took a major step toward improving public health by ordering eight ornate, cast-iron drinking fountains from Walter Macfarlane & Co.’s Saracen Foundry in Glasgow.
These beautifully designed canopied fountains were strategically placed throughout the city, including near public schools, to provide clean drinking water to students and the community.
